I am delighted to say that I am now the very tickled recipient of Carlyn Beccia's delightful (and fabulously illustrated) RAUCOUS ROYALS.
Not only can this delicious volume be enjoyed by adults for its sheer whimsy (as well as its solid research); but it's a set of regal training wheels (and I mean the phrase as a compliment) for younger readers whose appetites for royal scandals will surely be whetted by it, and who may become tempted down the line to read my nonfiction titles on royals behaving badly ...
ROYAL AFFAIRS: A Lusty Romp Through the Extramarital Adventures That Rocked the British Monarchy;
and
NOTORIOUS ROYAL MARRIAGES: A Juicy Journey Through Nine Centuries of Dynasty, Destiny, and Desire. (from NAL trade; the release date is January 5, 2010).
Carlyn will soon be giving away a copy of ROYAL AFFAIRS on her blog, http://blog.raucousroyals.com/ so be sure to pay her a visit. Her blog is always chock-full of fascinating historical arcana.

I'm green with envy =) I just LOVE the cover of The Raucous Royals - too funny!
I received Royal Affairs this week...thanks Leslie! I've got to tell you that I laughed out loud when I read the dedication to your husband...how you spent the first half year of marriage writing a book on adultery! So cute!
I'm really enjoying it - it seems to me that it takes some work to make non-fiction interesting, but you add that spice of humor and I love it! Puts me in mind of Kris Waldherr's novel, Doomed Queens.
Thank you, Amy!
I'm glad the dedication to "Royal Affairs" made you laugh. It is supposed to do just that, and, like the details of the amazing scandals in the book, it's true!
I haven't yet read "Doomed Queens," but I hear it's well done.
Regarding the addition of humor, my editor was very specific in that that's the tone she wanted for my ROYALS series of nonfiction books. So I am very glad that you and other historical bloggers (and my "civilian" readers -- past, present, and potential) enjoy that aspect of the book(s).
They're very hard work to research, but a lot of fun to write!
The Raucous Royals rocks! I absolutely LOVE it! Who says it's only for kids...the material, the design and the whole concept is fabulous. Everyone in my house gets into this book and can't get enough of it:)
